ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Mercury Events works with more than a dozen local, regional and national charities to produce run/walk events that vary in distance from 1 mile up to a full Marathon.
Your work will help impactful groups like Boys & Girls Clubs, Long Beach Neighborhood Foundation, Upward Bound House, Hope The Mission, Lustgarten Foundation, Sharsheret, Autism Society of Ventura County, K9 Kismet, Students Run LA and many others to raise crucial funding for their public benefit missions.
You will get the opportunity to work in as many different parts of putting on events as you like or you can focus only on areas that most interest you.
You will be working on a variety of tasks related to these events, doing tangible things and gaining valuable experience that will help you build your resume for future jobs. You will not be doing busy work or just filing papers or making coffee, you will do interesting things that have an impact.
Mercury Events has also offered past interns full and part time jobs at the conclusion of their internship.
Mercury Events puts on more than 50 run/walk events in several states throughout the year.
INTERN PROGRAM GOALS
Interns will have the opportunity to remotely attend regular zoom meetings and will be involved in the planning process at every step of the build up to putting together events as well as running a small business. Interns will witness and play a role in big picture discussions about establishing goals and setting time-lines for the year while also carrying out detailed tasks up to and including event day. Mercury Events strives to give interns a full picture of the workings of our organization and our events and to expose our interns to resume building experiences while they assist in expanding the good work of the organization.
INTERN JOB TASKS
The below job responsibilities are not expected to be comprehensive. Tasks will come up that cannot be anticipated making it impossible to create an exhaustive list of potential intern assignments. Whenever possible, interns will be able to choose assignments based on their interests and aptitudes. Interns will be involved with as many of these tasks as possible and will gain further responsible for tasks that they show interest in and aptitude for. Interns are not required to have advance knowledge of the tasks and task areas below and are not required to work in all of the following areas. Interns will usually be able to pick and choose their assignments within reason as long as the top priorities of the organization are being covered.
MARKETING
- Develop and implement marketing plan through multiple channels. Conduct and sit in on meetings with media outlets and manage placement of Mercury Events assets for maximum exposure.
- Contact events where Mercury Events can promote our events and arraigning purchase or trade of goody bag spot or other advertising space.
- Identifying events for flyer distribution and working out logistics and staffing for those events.
GRAPHIC DESIGN
- Create flyer’s, ads and other promotional material for events
- Work with photographic and other assets to keep website, facebook, Instagram registration pages and other public portals fresh and up to date
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
- Contact schools, religious and community groups about the events and about how they can take advantage of what Mercury Events gives back to the community
- Distribute posters, event flyer’s and other promotional materials.
SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
- Build on existing Mercury Events presence on Facebook and Instagram and increase engagement with our market.
SPONSOR OUTREACH, CROSS PROMOTION AND ACTIVATION
- Recruit and work directly with corporations large and small to involve them as sponsors of events.placement of Mercury Events assets for maximum exposure.
- Collect sponsor logos and other collateral and insure they are properly integrated into emails, social media posts/promotion and other Mercury Events marketing.
VOLUNTEERS
- Recruit, assign, review, plan and coordinate various types of volunteers before and during events.
- Thank volunteers after events.
FUNDRAISING
- Identify potential funders and partners and put together plans and proposals to secure donations and to also assist our non-profit partners with their ability to fund raise through the event and its participants.
PLANNING
- Attend weekly meetings and participate in planning discussions as needed.
EVENT LOGISTICS
- Review event plans and task lists and carry out a wide variety of duties before during and after the event.
WRITING
- Contribute to training and/or other blog posts. Create collateral for distribution on website, emails and other outlets.
